NASDDDS SPECIAL PROJECTS:
In 1997, the Association's Board of Directors determined that NASDDDS would take the lead in initiating selected special studies.
In order to ensure that such studies were aligned with the membership's needs and priorities, the Association staff conducted a survey to solicit member state agency input regarding the topics for the special studies agenda. Based on the survey responses, the near-term special studies agenda has concentrated over the past several years on: (a) waiting list organization and management; and (b) self-determination trends and individual resource allocations. Demographic/demand analysis has emerged as another high interest area. This topic is being addressed through the Core Indicators Project and through waiting lists studies.
The Association's goal in conducting special studies is to provide high quality information to member state agencies. NASDDDS is especially sensitive to the need for information that has direct relevance to member state agencies in carrying out their system management responsibilities.
To date, the Association has released three reports that are the direct outgrowth of special studies and analyses completed by the NASDDDS staff: Medicaid and System Change: Finding the Fit, Closing the Gap: Addressing the Needs of People with Developmental Disabilities Waiting for Supports, and A Supplement to Closing the Gap: Addressing the Needs of People with Developmental Disabilities Waiting for Supports.
