Join us as we take an in-depth look at building and maintaining effective individual- and family-centered systems of supports. Learn which strategies work and don't work in overcoming impediments to creating new, more effective systems of supports.
Self-advocates and family advocates kick off the meeting by telling us what they think state developmental disability officials should do to make services more accessible and tailored to their needs. State agency staff then will shed light on the systemic challenges they've faced in translating principles of self- and family-directed supports into effective statewide action strategies and how they are addressing these challenges.
Break-out sessions will focus on the experiences of six states -- Arizona, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Minnesota, and one yet to be identified state -- in three essential elements of policy and practice that need to be addressed as part of any comprehensive system change strategy:
Resource Allocation. What steps have states taken to adapt their payment policies in ways that facilitate individual and family choice and control? Potential areas to be explored include:
Infrastructure Development. Learn about new activities and tools that states have developed to undergird their operation of individual and family supports. Potential topics include:
Managing a Highly Decentralized Network of Supports. This series of breakout sessions provide insight into actions states are taking to retool their existing service delivery systems to improve their ability to administer and oversee an increasingly diverse array of individual and family supports. Topics to be explored during these sessions include:
