Arizona Welcomes New Director
Arizona Department of Economic Security welcomed Ms. Cheryl Lovell as the Assistant Director of the Developmental Disabilities Division. According to a recent state news release, “With 22 years of experience, Cheryl has held a variety of leadership roles in the health care field, including: Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer, Administrative Director, Regional Manager, Regional Business Development and Administrator in the home health, hospice, home care and mobile physician settings.”
“Cheryl’s career began in the United States Navy as a Corpsman, where she had the opportunity to learn very early in her career the unique struggles health care leadership faces. She passionately continued this journey after her military service, advancing rapidly in the companies she served by looking at health care from a new perspective.
Her experience includes multiple service lines in the post-acute continuum of care. As the CEO for the Southland Family of companies, Cheryl significantly grew the home health division in six years from a start up to a multi-million-dollar company. During that time, she launched startups for the home care, mobile physicians, hospice and palliative care divisions. Prior to that role, she worked with hospital-based, facility-based and independently owned home health and hospice organizations with multi-site, multi-state locations.”
“Her approach is to focus on the specific financial, operational, and organizational needs of the organization. Cheryl’s successes are based on the ability to quickly assess situations, implement immediate change, and develop strategies for long-term growth.”
“Cheryl has served as the Incoming President and President of the Arizona Home Care Association as well as a Board Member for the last five years. She is also a member of the National Home Care and Hospice Association Strategic Planning Committee.
Cheryl received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Health Care from Webster University and a Master of Business Administration from Marylhurst University. In 2005, she won the OMPRO Quality Innovator Award. She has presented many Continuing Education Unity (CEUs) courses around the country on topics related to the continuum of care, advanced care planning, psychiatric nursing, aging in place and readmissions. Her focus on community education and involvement have allowed her experience to be recognized by her colleges and community.”
